About BankSouth
Bank History
What is known today as BankSouth is a combination of two banks - The Citizens Bank founded in Greensboro, GA on April 1, 1946 with $50,000 in Capital Stock, and Bank of Union Point, founded in Union Point, GA on May 15, 1911 with $40,000 of Capital Stock. The merger occurred on March 3, 1977, creating Citizens Union Bank. On January 26, 2004 Citizens Union Bank formally changed its corporate name to BankSouth.
Today, BankSouth operates two branch offices in Lake Oconee, and downtown Greensboro. It remains locally owned, with the majority of the company being owned by the Reynolds family. This community bank has long reinvested in the local community, and actively supports many local businesses and charities. The BankSouth Foundation provides educational opportunities for area youth to pursue their collegiate dreams.
BankSouth has watched the communities, both in Greene County and in Putnam County, continue to grow and prosper. The bank has been with the citizens of the area through good times and bad, and is proud of it long heritage as a locally owned and operated community bank. Dedication to serving the community and its customers has remained the bank's highest priority throughout its sixty plus year history. Thank you for celebrating sixty years together!
